2023-2024 - Teacher of the Year

 

Congratulations to Mrs. Heather Gilliam-Wall named Elkin City Schools 2023-2024 district "Julia Holthouser Richards" Teacher of the Year.

 

This distinguished award was named in honor of the late Julia Holthouser Richards, who taught at Elkin High School for 23 years.

 

Mrs. Gilliam-Wall is an Elkin High School graduate who returned to Elkin City Schools after graduating from Appalachian State University with a BS in Special Education K-12 and added English/ Language Arts 6-9 to my NC license.

 

She is in her 25th year of teaching and when asked what she loved most about Elkin, she stated, “I feel very fortunate to teach in the same school system that supported and fostered my love of learning.” Mrs. Gilliam-Wall also stated this about student achievement, “I am convinced that student achievement is more easily attained by being available, transparent, real, and compassionate.”
