Career and Technical Education or as we refer to it as CTE, is education that directly prepares students for high wage, high demand careers.  CTE involves many different fields, including Arts, Audio Visual Technology & Communications, Business Management, Career Development, Finance, Health Science, Hospitality & Tourism, Human Services, Marketing, and Science Technology, Engineering, & Mathematics.

We have 9 CTE teachers in Elkin City Schools.  Our teachers do an amazing job preparing students for careers or college after high school.  Teachers are helping prepare the future workforce by providing students with relevant classroom experiences, opportunities to earn certifications and credentials, or through internship opportunities. Research  indicates that youth learners in CTE programs are engaged, graduate high school at higher rates, earn industry recognized credentials, and have rewarding and family sustaining careers. CTE courses are available to our middle and high school students.

Elkin City Schools Business/Industry partners provide valuable information on labor market needs and trends and identify new and emerging occupations, which help determine our course offerings.  Our business and industry partners also help compare student performance standards to business and industry standards and help teachers reinforce the skills students need to be successful.

If you are interested in partnering with Elkin City Schools, please call and ask to speak with Danna Carpenter at Elkin High School @ 336-835-3858 and let us know how you would like to be involved.  We are looking for job shadowing/internship opportunities, guest speakers, and career fair participants.
