Building Strong Foundations for Early Learning: Elkin City Schools Pre-K Program
OUR PARTNERSHIP
Elkin City Schools is proud to partner with Surry County Early Childhood Partnership, the NC Department of Public Instruction, and the NC Division of Child Development and Early Education to offer two 5-Star Pre-Kindergarten classrooms at Elkin Elementary School. Our Pre-K teachers and staff are highly qualified and trained through the state of North Carolina and the Division of Child Development and Early Education.
Our program serves eligible four-year-old children who live in the Elkin City Schools district with high quality Pre-Kindergarten experiences to maximize school readiness.
*Pre-K eligible children must be age 4 by August 31st of the current program year
- NC Pre-K
Elkin City Schools has 20 NC Pre-K slots available to fill for the 2025-2026 school year. Families must meet eligibility requirements to qualify for an NC Pre-K slot. These slots are offered at no cost to families who live within the Elkin City Schools district. Once all slots are filled, a waiting list will be established. - Fee-for-Service
Elkin City Schools offers a tuition program for families who do not meet the criteria for an NC Pre-K slot, but are interested in attending our Pre-K Program. Tuition is $585 per month and there are 12 slots available to fill for the 2025-2026 school year. Once all slots are filled, a waiting list will be established.

- Elkin City Schools Employees Fee-for-Service Employees who wish to enroll their child in Elkin Elementary’s Preschool Program can do so for a reduced rate for $535 per month. An “employee” does not include a substitute or temporary employee.

Once we have received your information that you are interested in your child attending Pre-K at Elkin Elementary School, a Pre-K application will be mailed to you at the address you provided.
Pre-K Screening will take place on May 1st & 2nd, 2025. Families will be asked to bring all Pre-K applications and required documents during their assigned Screening Day & Time.
All NC Pre-K applications and required documents will be submitted to Surry County Early Childhood Partnership. Once eligibility is determined over the summer, parents will be notified.
