Dual Language Immersion (DL/I) is an exciting opportunity for students! Elkin City Schools’ DL/I program first began during the 2020 - 2021 school year.  We are a two-way immersion program serving students whose home language is English  or Spanish.  Our DL/I program is an elective choice for families registering their child for Kindergarten.  We currently have one DL/I classroom per grade-level at Elkin Elementary and are in our fourth year of implementation.  Students begin Kindergarten fully immersed in the Spanish language.  

My name is Heather Pardue and it is my pleasure to serve as Elkin City Schools Director of Curriculum and Instruction.  Elkin City Schools has always been an academic leader among area schools and the state.  My position focuses on fostering the growth, development, and achievement of all students within Elkin City Schools.

DL/I programs are rapidly growing within our state and across the country, proving to close gaps and raise achievement for all students.  Research tells us that students who study language score higher on standardized tests than their peers who do not.  Language study also provides the unique opportunity for students to learn about and appreciate other cultures through respectful and effective communication. 

Elkin City Schools has always stood proud among the foundation of academic excellence.  We want to continue that tradition of excellence by producing globally competitive graduates. High levels of language proficiency make our students more college and career ready following graduation.
