In the Spotlight - 11-07-2022
Veterans Day is a national holiday observed on November 11th of each year.
Last year second graders at Elkin Elementary recognized that we needed a memorial to honor our Veterans. The outcome was beautiful and students were inspired to carry on this new tradition into the third grade.
Wednesday November 9th veterans from the Captain Mark Garner VFW Post 7794 will visit with second and third grade students to share what it means to be a veteran and to answer questions about their military service. Afterwards the second grade students will present an acrostic thank you message and third grade will conduct a flag folding ceremony and present it to our guests.
In addition, students in kindergarten through sixth grade have helped create a banner on display in the front of the school. We encourage you to drive by to observe it.
In addition to our Elementary school recognizing our Veterans today our other schools also honored all armed forces in a program at our Dixon Auditorium today at Elkin High School.
To all our veterans, we thank you for your service. Happy Veterans Day.
This week’s WIFM “Spotlight on Elkin City Schools" is recorded by Mrs. Denise Cordova, third grade teacher at Elkin Elementary School and is sponsored by State Farm Insurance and your local State Farm Agent, Mr. Steve Owings.
